Continuing the conversation about music awards, I want to talk about one of the most prestigious of them.
MTV Video Music Awards - an annual prize, awarded for achievements in the production of music videos, as well as the ceremony of the awards. The founder of this prize is a youth music channel MTV, and the prize itself is considered one of the most prestigious in the world of popular music. It is no exaggeration to say that all musicians aspire to become a channel MTV owner of the coveted statuettes.
Nominations MTV Video Music Awards reflect the situation in the music industry at each stage of its development. Since the MTV channel aimed mainly at teenagers, the absolute majority of the nominees - "stars" of TV, mostly from the music in the styles of pop, R & B and hip-hop.
The ceremony has been held annually since 1984 in late August - early September at Radio City Music Hall (New York, USA), and the prize is a statuette of the Lunar Man. The ceremony - the first of all the award ceremonies, which suits MTV.
In determining the nominees and winners of the participating special jury consisting of the 500 most eminent music industry: representatives of record companies, music journalists, video producers, as well as spectators MTV.
In different years the number of nominations, MTV Video Music Awards changed. Among the nominations are presented as the standard ( "Best Video", "Best Video in the style of R & B», «Best Video for the movie") and original ( "The best video quickly became popular", "Best performance in video). The ceremony was also awarded a special award "for contribution to the history of music"; in 2001 and was awarded "Artist of the Millennium", the first and still the only winner of this award was Michael Jackson.
In the nomination "Viewer's Choice" winners are determined only by the spectators MTV.
Awards ceremony lasts several hours. This includes not only the determination of the winners in each category, but also "live" performances by music stars.
