'Glee,' McCartney, U2 Earn Golden Globe Nominations

In other Golden Globe news, veteran rockers Paul McCartney and U2 will compete for Best Original song. Sade Unveils 'Soldier' Album In New York



Sаde, the R&B group featuring vocalist Sade Adu, will release its first collection of new material in almost ten years, "Soldier of Love," on Feb. 8, 2010 through Epic Records. The singer/songwriter, looking as youthful as ever in a black, silk pant suit and her staple slicked-back ponytail after revealing herself to thrilled members of the media, previewed the album in New York City's Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Center last night (Dec. 14).
"Soldier" is produced by Sade along with the band's friend and longtime collaborator Mike Pela. The band's lineup remains virtuаlly unchanged since its inception in 1983, and the songs on "Soldier" are written primarily by Adu, saxophone and guitar player Stuart Matthewman, bassist Paul Spencer Denman and keyboard player Andrew Hale.
"The Moon and the Sky" finds Adu declaring her devotion to her former lover, singing, "I pulled in all the stars and the moon/laid them on your feet till I gave you my love/you are the one that got me started/you could let me love anyone, but I only wanted you/why did you make me cry? Why didn't you come get me one last time," over choppy violins and simple drums. The title track, which was released last week as the first single, begins with a gentle wind, followed by muted trumpets. "I've lost the use of my heаrt, but I'm still alive/still looking for the light in the endless pool on the other side," Adu croons in her husky voice over marching band drums and smeared electric guitar riffs.
The heartfelt "Morning Bird" is packed with strings, piano strokes and tambourine clatter, as Sade questions, "How could you? You аre the river/I told this life, how could you/you are the morning day, you sang me into life/everyday, fly away, you are the blood of me/the heart of my dream." She commends a man's fatherly instincts on "Baby Father" over a guitar and drums, while she shelters the love of her companion on "The Safest Place," singing, "In my heart, your love has found the safest hiding place" over a piano-based production.

Michael Jackson Estate Administrators Seek Payment



The administrators of Michael Jackson's estate and a cadre of attorneys are seeking millions for managing the King of Pop's affairs after death, court documents show.
It's unclear how much exactly will be paid out.
The administrators of Jackson's estate, attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, are seeking 5% of money the estate has earned so far.
The administrators and attorneys have not been paid since Jackson's death on June 25, the filings state.
The estate may have earned $100 million or more with the sale of rights to the concert film "This Is It," new music releases and merchandising agreements.
But Jackson's estate also faces significant debt and a lawsuit cites at least 10 lawsuits that are still pending. They include suits over the rights to "Thriller," Jackson's iconic song and music video directed by John Landis, and lawsuits filed by former associates.
The filings state that a detailed accounting of the estate's earnings is not ready, but attorneys have filed some financial records for the judge to review.
Many experts believe that Jackson's estate earnings could eclipse those of another famous, and profitable, music icon - Elvis Presley.
"Unlike the typical estate, the operation of Michael Jackson's estate is more akin to the operation of a multimillion dollar business enterprise," attorney Jeryll S. Cohen wrote in a filing.
She wrote that many of the attorneys working the case have spent up to 14 hours a day on the case, and that not approving the fees soon will create a financial hardship.
Branca is asking the five percent be paid to his firm. The filing states he is not asking for a personal fee for administration of the estate.
Payments would also go to a variety of firms, including one representing the interests of Jackson's children.

Buju Banton Set To Appear At Bail Hearing In Miami



Jamaican reggae stаr Buju Banton is set to appear in Miami federal court.
A bail hearing is scheduled Wednesday (Dec. 16) morning for the 36-year-old singer, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie.
Banton and two others allegedly attempted to buy a large amount of cocaine from an undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota last week. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration was tipped off by a confidential informant.
Banton has been in federal custоdy since Thursday in Miami pending transfer to Tampa, where the case is being prosecuted.
He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted of a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.
Banton's attorney says the singer "vigorously denies" the charges.



Amazon Ships Lil Wayne's 'Rebirth' Months Ahead Of Street Date



While most of Lil Wayne's fans will have to wait until at least February in the New Year for his often-promised and often-delayed "Rebirth" album, about 500 Amazon customers who pre-ordered the album are enjoying the record already, thanks to a shipping mishap.
According to sources and an e-mail to Billboard from an Amazon customer, the online merchant sent copies of the album to some custоmers who pre-ordered "Rebirth." The album began arriving in mailboxes on Monday, Dec. 14, despite a change in the street date from Dec. 21 to February 1.
The release date change - the sixth time "Rebirth" was pushed to a new date - was made last month by Universal Motown, the distributing label for Cash Money, and its distributor Universal Music Group Distribution. Universal Motown and UMGD recalled the album, but roughly one million units were manufactured and about one-third were shipped to accounts when the decision was made to pull "Rebirth" from the schedule, sources say.
Although Amazon received the word to return the Lil Wayne album, supposedly about 500 copies were sent to customers. An Amаzon spokesman didn't respond to an e-mail request for a comment.
The decision was made because the latest single from the album "On Fire," is still building. Digital scans of the single since its early December release total almost 6,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Prior to "On Fire," the only track that has been released as an official single was "Prom Queen," which was released in early February and pеaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It scanned 725,000 units. Also, other tracks from the oft-delayed album continue to pop up on the internet. A third track from "Rebirth" leaked today (Dec. 15) - the highly-anticipated "Drop the World," featuring Eminem. Previously, "Hot Revolver" and "Fix My Hat" appeared on the net, while "Da Da Da" was issued as a digital single the same day as "On Fire" and so far has scanned less than 1,000 copies.
Consequently, Cash Money and Universal executives felt that the album hadn't received the proper set-up and decided to hold-up the release yet again, sources say. The album was initially supposed to be released April 7, but was pushed back to May 19 and then Aug. 18. And when that date came it went, the release date was pushed to Dec. 15 and finally Dec. 21, before the latest turn of events.
While its known that the album has been delayed to allow for proper set-up, some sources indicate that the album may be worked on some more, possibly with new tracks being added. If that's the case, then the Amazon customers who already received the album may have a collector's item on their hands.
Despite the latest postponement, retail anticipation for the album still runs high. Lil Wayne's last album "Tha Carter III," which came out in June 2008, was the last record to hit 1 million units in a debut week, at a time when most in the industry thought that feat was no longer possible due to the closure of record stores and the decline of the CD.
With more stores closures since "Tha Carter III" and the CD being a less resilient product than a year ago, it is unlikely that "Rebirth" will debut at a million, according to retailers. It is even less likely to do so now that the album has been delayed into the new year. For the last two years, the CD has lost 20% of its base in the new year in the U.S. market, and come January that is expected to happen again.
Possibly complicating matters more: Lil Wayne pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon and is set to be sentenced on Feb. 9.
Even with all of that, "You don't bet against certain artists and Lil Wayne's one of them," says the head of purchasing at one account. "He has such a huge fanbase."
A Lil Wayne representative didn't respond immediately to a request for comment.

Stooges, Genesis, ABBA Get Rock Hall Of Fame Nods

Genesis keyboardist Tоny Banks tells Billboard.com that the induction is "nice to happen" and that it's an honor to be the second British progressive rock band, after Pink Floyd, to join the Hall. "I suppose it being American-based and all that it just concentrates slightly more on that type of music," he says. ABBA is unlikely to regroup for a performance at the March ceremony, but the Stooges, in the wake of founding guitarist Ron Asheton's death in early January, have already been planning a 2010 tour with "Raw Power" era guitarist James Williamson. The group has been nominated for the Hall seven previous times.
