Top 10 confusing christmas song lyrics
Do you know your lords-a-leaping from your mistletoe and wine? If not, fear not; you’re certainly not alone! They may be sоme of the best-loved songs in the world but when it comes to knowing the lyrics to our favourite Christmas tunes, we don’t have a clue.
Songs are either misheard, misinterpreted or simply not known – it seems we’re all just winging it.
To celebrate their first Christmas, Sky Songs put the nation to the test to see how many of us actually know our 'boughs of holly’ from our 'bowls of holly’. The most confusing Christmas song, according Sky Songs users is The 12 Days of Christmas.
With twelve verses and an exotic array of treats, few people can correctly call of it to mind. In addition, there are some surprising misinterpretatiоns of the lyrics including 'twelve plumbers plumbing’ instead of 'twelve drummers drumming’ and 'a partridge in the pantry’ instead of it being in the more traditional tree’.

Justin Moodie, General Manager of Sky Songs says: 'People love to sing-a-long at Christmas and whether it’s singing out of tune after a few sweet sherries, being out of time or hearing the boys of the NYPD choir telling us all to go away – none of it matters, it’s all about the music.'
But other Christmas classics, including simple favоurites like Frosty the Snowman, have fallen victim to 'mondegreens’ – the official term for misheard lyrics. Let It Snow! comes in as the second most confusing with mis-sung words which include ''later on we’ll perspire, as we dream by the fire' instead of 'later on we’ll conspire,' and the primary school favourite 'while Shepherd’s wash their socks by night' for 'while Shepherd’s watched their flocks by night'.
The traditional song of New Year celebrations has been around since the 18th Century yet 15 per cent of the nation still struggle with the words, one respondent opted for 'Old Land Sign’ instead of the correct Auld Lang Syne.
